WHO WE ARE
- We are, first and foremost, a body of believers (1 Cor 12:12-13). We are not just a building, we only meet in one. We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, God, and Savior. We believe that He is the eternal Son of God, the Father, who created the Universe and every person in it. We believe that through faith in Christ, we are saved (Ephesians 2:8). After that, we are filled with their Spirit, the Holy Spirit, who comforts, guides, and protects us (John 14:26). We meet often to celebrate that fact, learn about Him, worship Him, and encourage one another through fellowship together. Our first allegiance will always be to God and His Word.
- We believe in God's word, the Bible. We believe it is complete in its present form.
We believe that it is sufficient to answer all of life's problems. We
believe it is from God, being miraculously transmitted through the
writers and preserved through the millennia. It is truth. There are no
contradictions or errors in it, only human misunderstandings. Everything that can be known about God is found in it. Everything about how we minister comes from it. (Psalm 19:7-9)
- We love our community and are dedicated to it. We love our children, we love our neighbors, we love our football, and we love our friends in Mingus and Gordon. We believe that Jesus left us a mission to share the good news of eternal salvation and forgiveness of sins with all of them. We try to provide ministries to our community by teaching Christ, meeting needs, investing in our town, and loving our friends.
- We try to be relevant in our cultural setting. Our worship service is a blended to include modern contemporary music and traditional hymns. Our Bible Studies are informal and seek to address issues in Scripture and in our world. We try to incorporate technology as a means to transmit the gospel to a modern world, and to enjoy God's gift of technological advancement. We hope that it is also a means to teach responsible use of technology. We also try to provide a safe place for children to be children and for youth to be youth. Our world increasingly tells our children and young people that they should dress and act like adults. We believe that young people should have safe and fun places to play games, get a little rowdy, and just be young. We try to provide that.
- We are Southern Baptists. There are many reasons why we freely choose to be Southern Baptist. We believe in global evangelism. Matthew 28:19-20 tells us to make disciples of Christ all around the world. For this reason, we also believe in cooperation. We have joined with other Southern
Baptist churches in order to pool our resources to fund mission work in
Palo Pinto County, in Texas, and throughout the entire world (Matthew
28:19-20). As one individual church, we would never be able to share
the gospel in Africa, Asia, Europe, or Mexico at the same time.
But by cooperating together and sharing some of our funds, we are. We are Southern Baptist because we believe that the local church should be able to govern itself. As Southern Baptists, we are free to conduct our worship services in any manner. We are free to choose our pastor and minsters. We are free to use our offerings as we see fit. There is no organization or hierarchy that dictates this. We instead are led by the Holy Spirit. We also believe in believer's baptism. We believe that Jesus intended us to be baptized through immersion after we profess Christ as Lord (Matthew 3:6, Mark 1:5, Acts 2:38, 2:41, 8:12).
